Abstract:
Three certain and three possible long barrows along with seventy-three ring-ditches - forty per cent of which might be round barrows - form the Herefordshire contingent. This number falls considerably short of many other counties' barrow count and it is noted that the idea that Herefordshire had a smaller population in the Neo-BA might be assumed. There is also a seeming absence of antiquarian activity with the author being unable to trace a single object from any Herefordshire barrow in any public museum. Arthur's Stone, however, is one of the best known and most frequently illustrated long barrows in the British Isles. Holroyd, Isabel
