Abstract:
Review of this fully portable device from Searchwell (at time of going to press costing about one-third as much as its rivals). Trials were conducted at Attingham Park in the NT's Mercia region. The three parts will fit into a 'modest-sized' car and can be put together in less than a minute, without trailing cables. The complete device weighs about 12.5kg and can be carried by a single operator using a shoulder-harness. It produces a (printable) screen image of a cross-section through the ground, revealing objects of metal, ceramic, plastic, walls and ditches etc; both deep pipe trenches and shallowly buried paths could be detected after less than a day's training. A few weaknesses are detailed, together with technical specification. Lavell, Cherry
