Abstract:
Investigations at Moat Close, next to Rawcliff Manor, revealed a network of ditches containing medieval pottery, apparently intended to drain low-lying land for farming and to channel water to the manor house moat. One of the medieval ditches was found to have cut a curved feature, possibly part of an Iron Age roundhouse, and other pre-medieval features were identified. Further work should be carried out in advance of development. AR
