Abstract:
A high-precision X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method, applied to the study of archaeological pottery, determines the abundances of thirteen trace and four major elements from one X-ray spectrum acquired over a 1000 second counting interval. As well as these results, the paper discusses the relative virtues and ease of sample preparation and analytical procedure of this method, its accuracy and effectiveness, as demonstrated in provenancing two samples of Middle Eastern pottery.
