Abstract:
Report on geophysical and topographic surveys undertaken in 2006 of Priory Field, in the southwestern corner of the legionary fortress of Isca (modern Caerleon), in an area not previously subject to archaeological excavations or to significant development. The main objectives were to locate and identify the remains of buildings, and to investigate how this part of Caerleon had been used in the centuries since the Roman period. The results of the surveys indicate a clear plan of the arrangement of buildings in the southwestern part of the fortress, including eight centurial barrack blocks and three storage buildings, probably granaries.
