Abstract:
An engraving of 1851 and oral traditions of a cap on the Long Man combine to suggest that he originally had a horned helmet; this would tie in with the hundred name (Tree of the Helmeted Waendel) and with the already noted similarities to the Finglesham Man the Torslunda figure, etc. Is the giant therefore Waendel? At Wandlebury (Cambs) the association of the place-name with Waendel is demonstrable, but there is no giant there (apart from those claimed by Lethbridge). Wallington (Herts), another place named from Waendel, has a graffito design of a ?dancing warrior in the church.
