Abstract:
The editor discusses 15 years' work with particular reference to finds made during fieldwork in the Bure Valley and on Sedgemoor, the organization of project support, presentation to the public, arrangements for protection and preservation (eg maintaining correct water levels), the development of the research design, and the future pressures on the Levels. He also provides a descriptive commentary on early settlement on Sedgemoor and in the Bure Valley, with a catalogue of finds (pp 33-61). Ruth Morgan (62-3) presents 'Tree-ring studies in the Somerset Levels: fifteen years of studying trackway wood', and Bryony Coles & M J Dobson (64-9) discuss the 'Calibration of radiocarbon dates from the Somerset Levels'. Notes on the archive and a bibliography are provided.
