Abstract:
One side of the three tapes in this multi-subject teaching pack is of a discussion entitled Is archaeology necessary? at the British Association's 140th Annual Meeting at Bath in September 1978. The contributors were Charles Thomas, P J Fowler and Warwick Rodwell, and topics discussed included justifying the costs of archaeology, over-visiting of sites, looting, aims of archaeology, priorities, and the work of the part-time and full-time archaeologist.
