Abstract:
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to carry out an archaeological excavation of land due for redevelopment. Two trenches were excavated, revealing a small number of archaeological features, predominantly comprising pits and post-holes, but including two linear features, a ditch and a slot, and a possible trackway. Some of the features were dated to the 12th or 13th centuries, with post-medieval and modern material coming from others. It was suggested that the medieval remains represented backland activity associated with burgages fronting onto the High Street to the north. [Au(abr)]
