Abstract:
Following the discovery of a tusk during quarrying limited archaeological recording was undertaken. The tusk was in pieces with the external sheaf surviving, but only a small part of the inner core was present. The tusk showed signs of weathering. The reported location of the findspot was in sands and gravels about 1m above the Mercia Mustone floor of the quarry. The sands and gravels were probably of Devensian Age (120-12,000 BP). Another fragment of the same part of the tusk was recovered from the spoil heap. [Au(adp)]
