Abstract:
An archaeological excavation and watching brief was undertaken prior to the proposed redevelopment of the site. The excavation consisted of the expansion of an earlier evaluation trench (3) in which medieval features had been recorded. In addition to the features observed during the evaluation, ditches of medieval date were revealed. It seemed probable that these features were drainage ditches appearing to drain the heavy clay, which lay below the topsoil. A hearth and scorched area perhaps indicated rural crafts being undertaken, perhaps metalworking indicated in an earlier evaluation. [Au(adp)]
