Abstract:
A watching brief was maintained during topsoil stripping for a landfill site. A number of features were exposed, including two parallel ditches aligned east-west flanking a possible trackway - the route of the Roman Ermine Street, as projected from aerial photographs would have crossed the south-east corner of this area although the stripping there was not sufficiently deep to expose it. Further work to the west of the stripped area revealed three linear features, a number of irregular features and five burials of probable 3rd century AD date. [AIP]
