Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on land at Moot Lane, Downton. The site lay within the area of the Saxon and medieval town and immediately adjacent to Downton Moot, a medieval earthwork castle converted in the 18th century into a landscaped garden. The evaluation sought to identify and characterise the nature and extent of any archaeological deposits surviving in the site and to assess the likely impact of the proposed development. Only post medieval building rubble and residual flint artefacts were revealed during the evaluation. [Au(adp)]
