Abstract:
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a nursing home. Prehistoric artefacts had been recovered from the nearby River Thames, and neolithic material had been excavated in the area. Syon House, a 16th century manor house built on the site of a 15th century abbey, lay to the north-west. During the evaluation, an iron age ditch, a bank, and fragments of pottery, animal bone and loom weight were recorded. Post-medieval pottery was also found. Further excavation work was proposed.
