The Commission's role in compiling and maintaining the National Monuments Record is described, together with their new role as the national body for the overseeing of local Sites and Monuments Records, and their further responsibility for creating a central record of historic wrecks within the twelve-mile coastal limit. Also covered are the present state of archaeological field survey and recording, aerial survey (including the post-reconnaissance programme), the continued development of the National Archaeological Record, architectural work (including the Survey of London and the National Buildings Record) and finance.
