Abstract:
A consultation document which considers how the principles outlined in part one of the manual may be applied to discrete individual monuments of clearly defined type or 'class'. Details four 'characterisation criteria', eight 'discrimination criteria', and four 'management appraisal criteria' by which monuments may be ranked, using county SMR and NAR records as a staring point for evaluation. The practical application of each of these three sets of criteria is then considered, noting that professional judgement ultimately plays a part in determining the importance of a monument. 'Appendix B', a list of monument classes, is omitted from this edition of the manual. 'Appendix C' (13pp) provides a specimen single monument description defining moated sites. 'Appendix D' (10pp) reproduces a specimen recording form for a single monument evaluation of moated sites in Hertfordshire. Oetgen, Jeremy
