Abstract:
An aerial photographic assessment was commissioned as part of a wider assessment of land proposed for development at College Farm. The area was shown to contain extensive evidence of various elements of a medieval agricultural landscape. The progressive levelling of ridge and furrow and its associated headlands was shown clearly on photographs taken between 1945 and 1994. The aerial photographic assessment also illustrated the extent to which the village of Hilton had expanded over areas containing medieval village remains in the form of upstanding ditches and banks visible on earlier aerial photographs.
