An introduction to the state communications network is followed by a discussion of its development during the late Republic and Empire. There then follow discussions of mansiones in the first to fourth centuries. Conclusions are given on the evidence for mansiones. Appendices are on 'The Pizos inscription' (67), 'The Antonine Itinerary' (98-107) and 'The mansio baths at Wall' (108-9). LRA
