Abstract:
Silts were removed by hand in the cathedral crypt prior to the laying of a new plaster floor. It is thought that the removal of mortar rubble approximately one metre thick, sometime last century, revealed the original Norman chalk floor. An excavation was conducted in the fairly recent past and left open. The western edge was cleaned and recorded giving an almost complete section across the aisle. [Au(abr)]
