Abstract:
An evaluation excavation was commissioned within the grounds of The Vyne, a country mansion dating from the early Tudor period. The lake within the garden was partially drained to reveal any features on the lake bed before work was undertaken. A number of substantial features were revealed consisting of early Tudor brick foundations and a number of pits, thought to be domestic rubbish and cess pits. The results indicated that the extent and importance of the early Tudor mansion at the Vyne could be of major national importance. [Sec(Au)]
