Abstract:
As a condition of the grant of a faculty by the Diocese of St Albans, for heating and drainage works at St John's Church archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the groundworks. The work adjacent to the tower arch within the building revealed a foundation which may have predated the present structure or may have suggested that the tower was built later than the nave. The exterior work demonstrated that the top- and sub-soil adjacent to the north-west corner of the nave had been frequently disturbed over time. A number of possible grave cuts were recorded.
