Abstract:
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a road improvement scheme where scatters of flint had been recorded during a fieldwalking survey. Geophysical survey in one area had revealed linear and pit-like anomalies. During the evaluation a shallow pit and an undated ditch, possibly a boundary, were observed. Two further ditches which had been indicated by the geophysical survey were recorded; these met at right angles and were probably field boundaries. Residual flints and a sherd of Roman pottery were recovered. It was concluded that the very mixed geological deposits at the site may have caused false geophysical responses. [Au(adp)]
