Abstract:
A watching brief was undertaken during a programme of repair and refurbishment of the city walls. The work involved the removal of some of the backfill within Tower 14, the dismantling of a section of inner wall supporting the wall-walk, and the removal of a portion of the rampart to create new foundations. Concurrent with the repairs to the tower and the wall, a series of tie-bars and cramps were placed at 3 metre intervals beneath the wall-walk. In all of the excavated areas only limestone and mortar backfill was observed. AIP SMR Primary Record Numbers: 1990.30 (YAT investigation identification no)
